Hello,

I tried to upgrade ram on my old DP45SG motherboard
It has 2 GB DDR3 1066 ram and such is no more available to upgrade
So I decided that I will keep the current ram aside and buy 2 new sticks .. each of 2 GB DDR3 1333 Mhz

I confirmed it from the intel site that board supports 1333 Mhz.

I took out the old ram chip. I put one new chip in first .. tried to boot .. 3 beeps no boot .. tried the same thing with second new chip .. 3 beeps no boot... tried the ram in friend's pc..it worked..
so that means the ram is not bad at all.

I rechecked on intel site that the new ram is compatible.

i tried one more time with new ram .. no luck .. 3 beeps, no boot.

I put my old ram in my pc and booted without a hitch.

I cant figure out what went wrong.. please help me .. thanks.

You can try inserting the new memory modules then do a hard clearing of the CMOS settings, (Check your M/B manual for exact how to), with the power pulled from the wall, and CMOS battery removed, and see if that changes anything.

If you are not familiar with your BIOS settings, write them down first, as this will be equal to a factory reset.

Thanks for all above replies .. it is totally evident that I did less .. I should also have followed the instruction in the intel manual to remove video card first .. and I did not do any cmos reset either .. I hurriedly returned the ram for a full refund .. but no problem .. next time I will do all above too. thanks for all above great suggestions.
