Hi all, I'll make it quick as we've all seen about a million of these threads already.

Old rig getting a little outdated so looking to upgrade. Current rig is:

Core i3 530 3ghz
4Gb Ram HyperX Ram
460GTX 768mb

On a budget (around £400-500) so was thinking something along the lines of:

AMD FX-8320 (will OC to 8350 levels)
Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 Motherboard
AMD R9 280x (will have to buy on fleabay)
8GB G-Skill Ram
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD

Would like to run titles like BF4, Skyrim etc on highest at no more than 1080p. Already have case, DVD, PSU etc.

Does this look like a decent solution? Any suggestions?

Yes, easily ultra

Parts look good, might wanna throw in a cooler if OC

Make sure your psu can handle that card

Yeah sorry forgot to mention Coolmaster EVO 212 cooler. Do you think I could step down to a 270x and still achieve ultra? I'd be saving myself £100 ;)  What minimum wattage am I going to need?

Yes, the 270X could still manage ultra but you'll still have a smoother experience with the 280X which is also 24% quicker on average

What psu (make and model) do you currently have ?

Currently have an OCZ Stealth Xstream2 600w.

I heard AMD also has tech that allows the FX series of CPU to communicate more efficiently with an AMD gpu making it quicker?

That psu has more than enough wattage

I think that's a myth, even with a Nvidia equivalent (gtx 770) it should perform roughly the same. The 280x does have mantle though which makes better use of the gpu in games supported like bf4, thief
