buying a PS4 and a pc will end you up spending the same amount of money you would've spent on a gaming pc. So to answer your question, a gaming pc will be more of a viable choice. However keeping in mind that you will miss out on all the playstation exclusives and building a gaming pc for the first time requires a learning curve to be passed. Also, you mention a work 'laptop', if you need a laptop for its mobility then getting a gaming laptop might be a better investment
