Hello,
For the past few months my PC has started freezing randomly, at first the freezes would last around 2-5s, during this time nothing responds, the mouse isn't moveable and sound completely stops, more recently the freeze is pretty much always lasting between 5-10s. The PC always recovers and does one of the following:
a) continues as normal
b) screen goes black for ~2s and continues as normal
Some days I can go completely without a freeze, some days I can get 3+, after it freezes once it seems the chance of it happening again is more likely (restarting after a freeze seems to help slightly), but they are usually spread out by a few hours. The freezes mainly happen while I'm gaming, although I have had the PC freeze like this also when just browsing or in text editors. It's hard to tell if it happens more regularly during gaming since this PC is used mostly for gaming. I've monitored both GPU + CPU temps+load when the freezes occur and there is no sign of spiking at all, temps on all parts run under 50oC as usual when freezes happen.
Also, I don't know whether it is related, but very occasionally when my PC boots, a random USB device might not work and needs to be unplugged and then plugged back in, or might fix on a reboot.
Current Specs:
Case: InWIN Dragon Rider Black Gaming Case
CPU: Intel i7 2600k OC to 4.3GHz
CPU Cooling: Corsair H100
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V Pro
GPU: EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX
SSD: Corsair Force Series 3 GT 120GB
HDD: 500GB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD5002AALX
PSU: Corsair 750W Pro Series
Additionally I have:
Bigfoot Killer 2100 PCI-E Gigabit LAN Card
M-Audio Fast Track Pro (External USB Sound Card)
Things I've tried so far:
-Replaced GPU (had old Radeon card before)
-Re-installed Windows numerous times
-Disabled most power saving options
-Swapped external sound card
-Windows RAM check
-Windows HDD check
-Nothing is logged in Event Viewer when the freezes happen
I had a suspicion at one point that it was the external sound card, but the freezes still occurred when I swapped the sound card to a different one. Strangely though, when I updated from the usual driver I use for the sound card to the latest, the PC doesn't recover after a freeze and just reboots, it puts a Kernal-Power critical log in Event Viewer, but I'm assuming that is just a crash because the driver can't recover?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks.
