I have an ext hdd that sometimes makes a clicky noise and then the PC says it has been disconnected. Since it works until it shuts off is there any way to make it stay on longer to back up the data? I have heard about putting it in a freezer.

Clicky noise isn't good. Clicky noise means its dieing hence the title "Click of Doom". Download the Crystal Disk Info in my signature and plug the drive in and run it. see if any drives come up as Caution or Bad
