I have built a gaming PC for myself before, but now I am building a PC for a relative. They do not play games and will be using it for normal every day things. I want to build them a very fast computer for much cheaper than market price. My main concern is the processor (i would prefer an i7 if possible) i will want to use. I do not want to put a big emphasis on a graphics card, and please exclude the purchase of a monitor and tower in your build price. I would like to keep the component price at $500 or lower. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can obviously add more ram depending on the tasks, though 4gb is enough for internet browsing, ms office..................

An i7 is gonna set you back $300 so that's about $180 more than the i3

Something to consider:

You won't need an i7. The i5 is already a fast enough processor already. If its just a computer for like web browsing and what not, you could just go with an athlon or pentium, and be able to fit in an SSD or something which would make a better experience on that end.

Intel build:

You could go with an i3 if you want, the performance is still enough if its not gaming, but i think the pentium would be better than the i3, just because you can fit an SSD into the build with a pentium.

Before i post the build, what brand is considered reliable for an SSD? Only looking for a 120gb
And a graphics card. I'm seeing a lot for around 60 bucks. I know this isn't a gaming PC, but i like MSI, ASUS, and EVGA

Asus and MSI are both amazing brands and they both have amazing cooling capabilities. I usually choose whichever is the cheapest at that time. A good SSD can be from ADATA or Crucial but that's it. The are basically the only budget ones there are.

Please take it easy on me. This is not going to be the final build, any suggestions to knock the price down would be helpful. I would like to keep an SSD though

Look, you said that it will be basic tasks and no gaming. Get an i3 instead of an i5, and remove the GPU, or at least get a lower end one like an r7 240

NO, not at all for regular tasks. the i3 is for home use, the i5 is for gaming, and the i7 is for professional work.

I think this is the build I've decided to go with. Hopefully I'll be able to knock down the price by getting the OS for cheap. Thanks everyone for all your feedback! As you can see the majority of your suggestions are in this build.
