Hey,

I'm looking into getting one of the r9 280x to upgrade from my 7850. I was browsing the forums about using a 280x with the CX600M and a lot of people said it would be fine, not perfect but it will do.

Other specs for reference:

i5 4690K
Corsair 230T Case
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard
Sapphire HD 7850 2gb
Kingston 1333mhz RAM (2x4gb) (Upgrading soon, if anyone would like to suggest!)
Corsair cx600m

I would like to ask the kind people some questions:

1) Would I be able to use the r9 280x for a few weeks until I buy a new PSU? (Thinking of getting a HX series on corsair - looking to spend £50-90 on a new psu)

2) I don't go mental about colour schemes, but all the sudden, my setup has became red: What 280x would you suggest and WHY.

3) XFX or MSI 280x? XFX is 30ish cheaper on amazon, haven't looked into Ebuyer/Tiger direct yet, if you can find cheaper on other website which includes P+P (or free) be sure to mention

4) I don't plan on oc'ing the GPU until I get a new PSU, this is a problem I might have with the cx600?

5) Should I just save my money and wait for the GTX 800 + new PSU in the future? A few people could say: "If you need it now, then buy it now..."?

6) Would you recommend the 280x for games that I own on my steamlist @ http://

Who owned 7850 and upgraded to 280x: What is your performance increase from the 7850? I would like to hear from anyone who has done similar.

If you need any more information about future games or have any reasons why I should wait, I would appreciate it for those who help me out, thanks a lot!

EDIT: This might be a massive help haha: I'm in UK (South-east)

You could run a R9 290 on that PSU if you wanted to, just make sure you don't overclock anything.
600watt is okk for 280x but cx series of corsair is not good a xfx or seasonic is what i would choose....i personally like the gigabyte one, the best 280x for according to performance and fps would be sapphire toxic, but if u go with colour scheme and looks then asus or msi would be my opinion..saving money for a 800 series would be lame there is always something new on its way like that u have to wait forever.....yes i personally like the 280x for games..7850 you can compare with r9 270 which is like 1 and a half tire below the 280x....speaking of performance increase you can check the benchmarks of both the cards in similar games at similar settings on youtube..

Yeah, the CX was just a replacement of an old PSU that died. I'll look into some XFX units and do some research.

The MSI would be awesome with the MSI motherboard I've got, but I am not too bothered about mix or matching, MSI 280x looks ideal but for £10 more, I can get the Gigabyte one. People have mentioned about the Gigabyte and the windforce being a good addition to the cooling, I'll look into that myself too.

I'm actually selling my 7850 to a friend which will cover the cost of buying a new PSU, so I need to look into the PSU a bit more, so I'll be solid on a PSU at 750w? Maybe a bit overkill but if I want to upgrade to the 290x or such it will be fine?

Haha, of course.

How would you feel with comparing the r9 290 with the 280x Toxic?

the r9 290 is leaps ahead for all ultra or for 1440p and up. I would get a r9 290 if your considering but you would need the evga or antec, xfx, etc. I like the evga 10yr warranty means your covered, fully modular, and gold rating. does anyone have the tier list for psu i know someone will bring it up eventually. the r9 290 will be better for future but so is the r9 280x.
