I just recently purchased a new motherboard, AMD cpu, and computer case. However I came to the realization that there is more than just installing the parts into my new case and hitting the power button. I completely spaced the fact that i would need to do some downloads/updating on the software side of things....but...where and what do i start with???? I would like to use the same hard drive from my old pc, but if thats going to be too much of a hassle im willing to get a new hard drive and OS.

First you need to go to your motherboards manufacturer's site and download all your drivers. Or simply use the cd that came with the mobo.

Now when you say you want to use your old hard drive do you mean with the os entact? That is very possible as I did it myself by setting it up properly. Is this a completely new build or just an upgrade of those specific parts?

OK, so the mobo came with a disk, do i use that after the mobo is installed? Or would you suggest downloading the drivers from the manufacturers website?

Yes I want to use the same OS and everything that's on the hard drive. Its not a completely new build, no. I'm gonna use the same graphics card, hard drive, mouse, etc. It was just time to upgrade the cpu, and cpu cooling system from the original factory setup. That also meant upgrading the mobo so that its compatible with the new cpu.

You have two options. One is booting into safe mode and trying to uninstall all the drivers from the previous mobo or use sysprep to do delete all drivers and setup the pc as a new system with all of your programs and data entacts. You would just need to install all drivers again.

If you have the disk than just use it.

Ok, great thanks!
Now when you say uninstall the drivers from the old mobo, do you mean before or after I instal the new mobo? Just need to make sure im understanding that part of the process correctly.
