Hi,

I'm needing to replace my 6870 and I've decided upon this card. My only hesitation is that I can't seem to figure out if my current PSU has enough juice for it. I've used a few PSU calculators and seems like I should be able to but I can't find anything officially listing the power supply requirements.

Current specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2400
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6870
MB: ASRock Z77 Extreme3
RAM: Crucial 2x4 GB 1333 MHz
SSD: Crucial M500 240 GB | HDD: WD Caviar Blue 500 GB
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W
Windows 8.1 Pro

Could someone point me in the right direction?

Solution
A Radeon R9-280 needs 30 amps on the 12v rail and a 550 watt power supply with at least 2 - PCIE 6+2 power connections.

The OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W has 2 - 25 amp 12v rails and the proper power connections.

Yes you can run the R9 280,
:D

the recommended PSU for the 280's I believe is 550W and I know for a fact the 280X requires a 600W psu. So even if I'm mistaken on the 280 recommended PSU you will be safe because the 280X draws more and you have a big enough PSU for that card.

I'm not familiar with that brand of PSU , but it's bronze certified , so seems legit. It has 50 amps on the 12v rail , which is more than enough for the r9 280! Just run it all through a power supply calculator to double check first!

Even thought the 280 and 280X are rebadged 7950 and 7970's the power requirement for the PSU went up. the 7970 requires a 550W and the 280X, its rebaged name, needs a 600W.
