I just got a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO and am confused on how to install it. The instruction manual says that I'm supposed to put in the installation disk, plug the SSD in using a USB and data migrate to the SSD then install, but the SSD didn't come with any other cables, just an instruction manual and the SSD itself. I'm confused as to what I am supposed to do as I have read that it's supposed to come with a SSD to USB cable as well as another cable to connect the SSD to the motherboard. If anyone could help on how I am supposed to install this in my computer and move Windows 8.1 to it, it would be much appreciated.

You can leave your HDD just like that if you want it doesn't really matter. For cables just pick a SATA 3 (6GB per sec) cable. it's digital transfer so quality cable is irrelevant.

As for your games, they might be still working. some games (like league of legends) may be transfered by simply copying the file in program files.

Though i would suggest you to reinstall steam and just copy your old directory from your HDD to your new directory.

First, here is a not to do list with SSD : http://www.howtogeek.com/165472/6-things-you-shouldnt-do-with-solid-state-drives/

Now. if you want to install windows on this SSD to get better boot performances, DO NOT migrate your windows into the SSD, there is a danger of sectors misalignments which will cause your SSD to have poor performance and will shorten is life.

So install windows from the scratch on this new SSD.

To connect it, simply connect a sata cable on the SSD sata port and the other side of the cable on the motherboard. Then, connect a sata-power cable from your Power supply to your SSD and you are good to go.

if you wish to prolong your SSD life, it would be wise to place your internet temporary file into your HDD. here is a solution for IE : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/change-location-of-temp-files-folder-to-another/19f13330-dde1-404c-aa27-a76c0b450818

i know it is for win7 but it works the same way with win8.1

if you are using chrome, i uses this guide for my SSD : http://essayweb.net/miscellany/chrome.shtml

follow the solution titled : a better way to do it.

Ended up opening up the computer to install and mounted the SSD but it turns out my computer only came with one SATA port, will have to go down to a store tomorrow and buy another one. What cable should I be getting for this, any specific SATA cable perform better?

EDIT: Should I be reinstalling steam and all my games on the SSD or how does it work to be able to put certain games on the SSD?
