Need to connect wireless to internet 1 mile away, is it possible?

I don't know anything about this stuff. All I do know is that my office is about 1 mile away from my house and I cannot get good internet at my office. The only thing I can get is satellite internet and it is limited on downloads. I download a lot on my computer at work. Also, my kids spend their day at my office after school and they have an xbox that they would like to play the first person shooter games on xbox live, would that be possible? Any help would be great. Where to look for info, or where to begin?

When you try to go distance like that you need clear line of site and you must be well above any trees or buildings. You almost have to mount these devices on poles on the roof to get them to work properly. Even at fairly short distances the spread of the beam and curve of the earth have a major impact on microwave transmissions. This is called fresnel zone and the calculators say you need to be about 13ft above any intervening obstacle...ie houses.
