So I have a Toshiba laptop with win 8 preinstalled in it I want to dual boot it with win XP However I managed to boot to the CD after some research but when I reach to installing win xp to my virtual partition I can't seem to find it I just see my HDD as one without a partition... what can I do?

Solution
Use a virtual machine. worked perfectly for me ! get it there:

You will be able to boot XP inside Win8 and access to both system at the same time. all you have to do is to create a virtual windows XP machine and select you windows XP CD from the drive when creating the virtual box.

then, you will install windows XP inside the box and will be able to access it anytime.

Won't it be slow and won't my laptop overheat?

we are talking of windows XP ! you will allow only like 512 MB of RAM, 1 core (windows XP hardly handle 2 core) and like 128 MB for graphics or even less so no it won't overheat your system. Though it might work slower. it depend of what you will do with it. in my case i use it to play old 16-bit games and i have no problems
