I'm buying a new motherboard which has a 24 pin power supply socket, but my psu has only a 20 pin. I do have my psu connected directly to my video card, so do I need the extra 4 pins? Are there any possible hardware issues if I am able to do this?

Asus Nvidia GTX660 TI - 3gb Video Card
Asus P8 Z77-V Pro Motherboard (Future motherboard)
I5 2500K Processor
550 Watt Power Supply

It is a good idea to replace this. Look for a Seasonic, XFX, Corsair HX 650 - I suggest 650 watts.
