Hi, my newly built computer isn't turning on. This is normal to an extent, but all of the LEDs and the display on the mobo work, and the fan on the heatsink (212 EVO) starts turning, stops, and starts turning again (rinse and repeat). Do any of you guys have an idea what's happening? Thanks.

it sounds like you have something on the board not starting up properly. it is cycling like you say to protect something.

disassembe all your components and put them back in one at a time to see what it is.

re apply all the power wires to the system

then the cpu and ram. make sure you re do the thermal paste. amd check for any bent pins under the cpu.
after this you can power up to see if you get the same issue. if it doesnt do the same continue. if it does there is a problem with one of the installed items

then add the video card

then add hdd add odd

let me know how you go and if you need any more help

We have a troubleshooting sticky that has a checklist for this type of problem. Perform all the steps in the checklist and it should help you figure out what's causing the problem. There's a link to the checklist in my signature.
