Laptop not shutting down

I own a HP notebook (j048tx) which sometimes wont shut down even when i command it to shut down. I have to hold the on/off switch for some sec and then it shuts down. It does not happens always but sometimes. Is it normal ?

Okay so, assuming you mean, you're going to the start menu, and you hit the normal shutdown button it doesnt shutdown? forcing you to hold the physical switch correct? If so, it may run a little slow shutting down, you have to give it a minute sometimes in order for it to stop all services, processes ect in order to do a safe shutdown, how long is it taking before you choose to physically hold down the button?
