Bad Motherboard or Drivers? Constant "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" BSOD screens

So, I replaced my PSU/CPU/GPU/Mobo and added 2 new sticks of ram. My HDD and 2 ram sticks are from my old build. But now I am constantly getting these BSOD with the same message from a brand new windows 7 64bit install. Sometimes the pc even freezes in the motherboard splash screen.

I had a hunch that it was a particular network driver I was trying to install (from the mobo disk). So I put in an aftermarket network adapter and installed the drivers that came with it. All this accomplished was allowing me to use the PC for maybe 10 minutes but then the same BSOD happens. I really hope it is not a hardware failure because of the brand new parts excluding the hard drives.

System Specs:

  • CPU: Intel i5 4690k
    Mobo: Gigabyte Z97 Gaming 7
    GPU: EVGA Classified 780ti
    PSU: Antex H 850w modular
RAM: G.Skill 8gb (2x4gb) that is able to run at 2133 mhz but I keep it at 1600.

Old Parts:

  • HDD: 2tb for the main partition and a 700gb one I use as a backup
RAM: G.Skill 8gb (2x4gb) that can only run at 1600 mhz.

Thank you all for your time and help.

Edit: Just some more info. Sometimes my pc will freeze in the motherboard splash screen (where you press del to enter bios). Sometimes after I restart after a bsod and try to go into the recovery/repair mode, the pc will bsod again (but it disappears way too fast for me to read it) or freeze or just restart. Thankfully this issue only seems to come along with the initial "IRQL" BSOD.

Edit 2: More info. The reason why I replaced parts was because of problems with my old build (something went wrong when I was dusting and replacing the heatsink outside). The PC would turn on and all fans would be running but the monitor would just remain black, all cables were plugged in and secure. In the end I couldn't find any specific problem to fix so I replaced most parts. Also reading more on it, I am kind of leaning towards RAM failure, more specifically one or two of the
sticks from the old build. Thoughts?

Edit 3:
Ok, I seemed to have fixed the issue. What I did was reset both the CMOS and BIOS and then did a reinstall of Windows 7. It has been working fine since I have done this and I went online and downloaded all the required drivers. I am still worried and hoping it doesn't BSOD again, but for the moment it seems to be fine.

Edit 4: Ok, the problem occured again. This time it was a "Page Fault in NonPaged Area" followed by the "IRQL Not Less or Equal". I am going to take out the two old sticks of ram and see what happens.

Edit 5: Found one RAM stick was not seated properly so I took them all out and reseated them after dusting. About an hour later I received a "memory management" bsod.

Edit 6: Just took out the two old RAM sticks. Will report back on what happens.

Edit 7: It seems that taking out the two old RAM sticks fixed the issue. I have been clear of BSOD since. Could the RAM just be fried or is it because they are clocked at 1600mhz while the new ones can go to 2133mhz?

You could well be right about the RAM modules. Test them with Memtest86. Make a bootable CD from the CD Image, then boot your PC from it: http://www.memtest86.com/

Note: any hangs, crashes or freezes during the initial boot process cannot be caused by a Windows driver because those drivers do not load until Windows starts to load.

Edit: Ok the problem came back, so it's not fixed. Since I don't have any spare CDs to burn, I am going to take out the two old sticks and see what happens.

Edit 2: Saw that one RAM stick was not seated all the way in, in channel A. So I took them all out and dusted the slots and then re seated them in properly. Let's see what happens.

Edit 3: Just got a memory management BSOD
