Western Digital Blue 1TB vs Western Digital Black 1TB (mainly noise concern)

Hi there,

ok, i'm just about to order my computer (At last!!)

and as someone here recommended - i was going to go with the WD Black over the Blue..

However looking at the product description;
the 'Blue' drive Boasts:

*Ultra cool and quiet

While the Black Drive boasts 'newer better' e.t.c;

However it has no mention as to how loud it is…. which concerns me..
As i'd much rather have a nice and quite hard drive.

Could someone with a WD Digital Black 1TB~ tell me how loud the Hard drive is ??

i have a black 2 tb hdd in my computer, as well as 2 greens. the black is quite a bit faster, about 170 mbs, the greens are about 130 in crystal diskmark. the greens are silent while the black is quite noisy. it kind of sounds like a coffee maker. Just by using the drives, the black does not seem any faster than the greens, only in benchmarks. if noise concerns you, go with the blue. i belive the blues are right inbetween the green and blacks.

my whole rig has partly been built around noise reduction…. - i hate background noise..

and the Black one i was looking at was the: Black / Caviar Sata - couldn't find the barracuda..
the blue one i was looking at was also the Caviar Sata version… and it said it was nice and quiet :)

think i'll go with that one.?
(i don't mind all that much waiting for things to load… and i've got an SSD for my games.. so it's really noise i guess)

hey BradleyJames - which black version do you have - the Caviar or the Barracuda??

i'm just trying to get the quietest one really… so i think it's between blue caviar or black Barracuda..
