Good Morning all, I currently have an office network that was put together by a friend of mine a few years ago, the devices are now at their EOL and I need to change things over, I no longer have access to my friend and I could really do with some help in re configuring new items etc... Maybe some of you can help? what would you need to know from me?

Thanks

Elaine

@Elaine,
- What kind of office is that? How many nodes (computers, tablets, phones etc) are there?
- How many rooms / floors your office occupies?
- Do you have Ethernet wires already available where you would need them?
- What kind of applications you are using?
- Do you need a central server for any of your applications (e.g. Quidkbooks server)?
- Do you have central place where yo back-up your workstations?
- Do your workers work remotely? How "good" is your internet connection?

The list can go on and on...

Thanks all... There is currently 7 comp boxes hardwired into the sockets on the wall direct to the switch cabinet in the other room, 1 wifi box. The problem i'm having is that I have a Linksys Network Storage Link box thing that we currently have 2 hard drive Western Digital hard drives connected to. One is the main back up and the second is the secondary back up. I dont know how these connect as I dont understand how the linksys box works... both hard drives are full and I wish to change them... i've bought two more boxes, both western digital that said it was plug and play... i've plugged... its not played!!

I dont know what to do with the linksys network storage link box to make it happen... I can gain access to it... but I dont know what i'm doing... is there a simple way to deal with this?

all your help is greatly appreciated.

Yes alabalcho... thats exactly it... This item is connected to the switch. and from the link box I have 2 western digital storage drives that are plugged in, back up 1 and back up 2 both connected by usb.

I thought If I just unplugged the storage box and put in the new ones they would just begin running again... and everything would go onto the boxes as before and we would have more room... but i've plugged one in, into slot 2 and left it from sat night to mon morning and nothing (as far as I can tell) has happened. I dont know how to check the settings on the box to ensure that back up is working correctly as I dont understand the link boxes...

i have recently purchased these:

your help is greatly appreciated

thanks

I don't know a lot about these Linksys boxes. THey are quire old, not supported anymore (LinkSys as a company has changed hands twice since this box was released - first to Cisco, now to Belkin), and even then it was primary to serve home market.

Most probably your box needs reconfiguring in order to accept new storage. If I was you, I would return the new USB drives, and get something more modern and with better support. It should cost you less than $1000 to get modern NAS (network-attached storage) with ample room to support your small network, but even that box will need some initial setup.
