I have a Toshiba 500GB External 3.0 USB drive. I cannot get it to show as a drive under my computer. When I check the Device Manager, it is functioning properly and is up to date with drivers; however, when I go to Disk Management, I am told that I must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it. When I attempt to do either (MBR or GBT), I get an error stating the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. How can I recover data from this drive?

Well, first of all, don't initialize or format it; that will make the data harder to repair.
