Metro apps stopped working: Crash right after they're opened

So, earlier today I connected my phone to my computer to manage it, as I always do. The Windows Phone app should open in a couple of seconds. As I was working on other stuff, it took me a while to notice that it didn't: First I saw its icon on the tool bar, as if minimized. Upon further investigation, I realized it had "minimized itself", so to speak, and it did the same thing every time I tried to open it. In other words, the app would be clicked, go full screen, and then take me to desktop.

Trying to troubleshoot the problem, I tested other apps and to my surprise, almost ALL of them did the same, except for OneDrive and Computer Settings. No explanations, no error messages, no nothing. They simply open and then crash I investigated more, and this seems like a fairly common problem, since many posts on forums everywhere describe the exact same problem. None of them had one simple, straight solution, though. Only theories, ideas, and none of them worked for me. Believe me, I'm a very persistent guy, and I tried everything short of refreshing or reinstalling Windows.

On Microsoft's forum, they fail to answer WHY this is happening, giving stupid automated answers, and I guess that what they mean is "we have no goddamn clue". From what I understood from many forums, this issue is like a ghost since Windows 8.1's debut: It comes out of nowhere, apparently for no reason, with no pattern (as after a specific update, for example), and sometimes goes away or can be fixed (one guy on a forum claimed that changing his region on Windows did the trick; another said the problem disappeared after an update).

Now, this is how it happened for me (based on Windows event logs and from what I can remember): I performed an update on July 9. On July 10, I only used the computer for about 40 minutes, didn't use any apps. I only came back two days later, and according to the logs, that's when it all started, with the system failing to load Skype services on its respective app (I didn't use any apps again, so I was still not aware). I only noticed today, July 14, because of the phone app, as I said earlier.

I checked the logs and every time I try to open an app, and error log is created, and it says 'App coudn't load!" or something to this effect. I am at work now (8.1 apps are normal here) but when I get home I can post the actual error messages here.

Anyway, thanks in advance for your support, and I hope someone can help me.

Solution
I had to completely remove my AV

I was using Avast and unless I uninstalled it, my apps refused to work

Ended up using a different AV, just couldn't get avast to work with the apps

Yeah, many people reported that specifically Kaspersky could be the culprit, and I tried disabling my AV even though I use Eset Smart Security. Didn't work. And one of the affected apps is the store, so I could uninstall the apps, but not reinstall them. When I go to the store website, it always wants to take me to the app. It's a dead end I guess.
