You have given next to no info, how do you expect people to help you in any way?
First off, the specs of your PC currently, if you don't know how to find this then you can look it up.
Secondly, whats your budget?
Third, what do you want to do with your PC? If it involves playing games, what games do you want to play?

No matter how old you are. If your budget is skinny, then R7 250 can be a good card for you.

Expect playing games like crysis 3, battlefield 4, batman arkham city at Medium/High Graphic Settings.
If you are thinking to play at ultra with silky smooth looks, then r9 series will be better.

Current Specs:
GPU: GT 310
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
RAM: 3GB DDR2 1333MHz

My budget is up to £60 for the GPU £100 for CPU + Motherboard and £60 for RAM

i want to use it for gaming and the games i'd use it for are Batmanman Arkham Knight when that comes out, crysis 3, far cry 3, far cry 4 when that comes out, dark souls 2 and borderlands the pre-sequel

but most of these games i don't mind playing on medium at 1600 X 1200 resoloution

i'd probably be able to afford an r9 in the future

Remember, should the resolution gets higher, then frames drop.

Games like Arkham Knight and Far Cry 4 are going to be a graphic-intense games. If you are playing games @ low or medium settings, then do not hesitate to buy R7.

SoulRider, not sure where you got that from, but there is no way that a R7 250 can play any of those games on medium/high, look here:
http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/graphics-cards/1305007/amd-radeon-r7-250
R7 250 playing Crysis 3 at medium settings gets an average of 17fps, which is nowhere near playable. This is a low end GPU, you're not going to be able to get smooth framerates on any of those games on medium or high settings, probably an average of about 20fps for Arkham city, and less for BF4, anything under 30fps is very unplayable. You might be able to run Arkham city on low and get 25-30fps, but thats a maybe, and same goes for Bf4 in certain areas of the map if you play a match with like 5 other players.

Point is, if you want to play any of those games, the 250 is NOT a good card. It would be fine for playing this like Minecraft and Counterstrike, and most older games, but you won't be able to play AAA games on a £60 card. You just won't.

Good. And it seems like you really need an upgrade for your RAM.
Also, you have stated that you might change the processor, down the line.

If so, better afford an Intel-based CPU. Because AMD APU are not meant for gaming. If your motherboard does not support intel chipset, then buy AMD FX processor (yet fx processors are almost dead i.e., no future proof)

> I know that this GPU is not meant for high end games. If those mentioned games are playing in 720P, then it can definitely reach 25-30 FPS. 30 FPS doesn't really bother much.

Also, we cannot force the OP to purchase R9 series card as he/she has to keep an eye on budget.

A good single high-end card is FAR BETTER than 2x r7 250.

Also, R7 250 is not for 1200P resolution. If you can lower the resolution to 768 or 720, then 25-30 FPS of game play can be observed in crysis 3 and battlefield. And hey, I have no good clarity if R7 can handle the upcoming games. The card is far away from them. If urgent, go with R7.

Let me suggest you something. Wait for few days. Don't urge yourself and buy things in haste. Get more money in your pocket and afford R9 with either Intel Processor (considering you change the motherboard) or AMD FX.

Faizan, please give your full specs, so what case you have, what power supply, what motherboard, etc, EVERYTHING in your computer. If your PC is prebuilt (you bought it from a shop or second hand from someone else who bought it from a shop), then you can just link us to the PC on said shop.

Anyway, don't allocate your budget for each thing, just give a total budget for spending on your PC, and a different budget for if you save up for some time, (IE: I'm getting £50 for my birthday in september and can use that aswell).
Anyway, you're best off waiting for a bit until you have a bit more money and then getting a R7 260x graphics card, which is only about £30 more than a 250, but will be able to play most games on medium-high settings at good framerates.
Upgrading your ram would be a good idea for the future but isn't entirely nescessary, and you're better off spending the money elsewhere on your PC.
If you give me the full info of your specs (everything), as well as monitor resolution and total budget + if you can save up for a bit (you mentioned saving up for an R9), once you do this I can work out the best option for you in terms of upgrades.

Ah SoulRider it can run those games at lower settings and lower resolution/quality, but OP didn't mention what monitor he/she had so I'm unsure what resolution they would want to run them at. Faizan mentioned being able to save up for an R9, so I assume he/she can get the money for an R9 if they wait, which would be a much better idea.

it was prebuilt but i don't know where from but i know i have a k9agm2 motherboard and 2 HDDs with 325GB each from seagate.
my PSU also has 650 watts and 2 X 12v rails.

i guess i could forget about ram for now and go for the r7 260x or gtx 750ti

Yeah your best option would be to get something like an R7 260x, forget about RAM for now, and then if you want you can use the rest of your money to get a decent mobo + CPU combo. If you have any cash left, you can spend that on more ram. Also, you didn't mention your monitor resolution, what is it? And can you please check whether how many sticks of RAM your PC has in it.

For CPU + MOBO this combo would work well, and is well suited to the R7 260x:
