More RAM -> Lower transfer rates?

Hello,

I ran 2x8gb Ripjaws RAM cards at 2400mhz, I got a read result on AIDA64 of 36000mb/s.
I then added 4x8 Sniper RAM cards also rated 2400mhz. I made sure they are running at 2400, because I checked on CPU-z and it said 1199mhz, which translates to 2400mhz overall.

So my question is the following, why did I get 36000mb/s with two ram cards, and now with 6 cards, with a total of 48gb RAM, im getting only 16000mb/s in AIDA64?

Depending on how you have the sticks inserted, you are prob running 32GB in quad channel and 16 GB in single channel which puts a fairly good load on the MC (memory controller) as it's not balanced, might check for suggested tri-channel setup which I believe the Black supports, though not sure, only built 2 and both we simply went with 32GB in quad channel
in lesser terms......... information goes up and down 1 ram stick and then up and down anther. the more sticks the more time it takes. also the memory controller on the cpu matters in this.

even with the same speed ram.......... I ran 2 sticks of 1333...... added another 2, got slower.

if you need the extra ram because of your apps you're still ahead of the game.
 
What platform are you running this on? Reason for asking is your ram controller is based on your platform, being optimized for single, double, triple or quad channel, all of which perform differently with different configurations of memory.

Thanks for reply, I am running Windows 8.1 Pro, and I probably should of mentioned my computer specs. ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition with an i7 4960x. The cpu runs at a constant 40x multiplier because of the XMT that I had to enable for the RAM to run at 2400. I have tweeked the cpu down to 39x but 40x seems to run at about 65 Celcius under load so that should be fine if I am correct.
 
There are a few things to try I'd say.

Starters, making sure (probably already done, but for sake of thoroughness) that the four matching sticks are installed into the four dark gray dimm slots and then the 2 matching into the black slots. (A1, B1, B2, C1, D1, and D2)

That should get all of your matched sticks running in 3 pairs of quad channel configuration and match the timings per channel.

Next thing to try would be to see what results you score with just the 4 matched sticks into slots A1, B1, C1, and D1. That is the most simple quad channel configuration and since the kit is matched, should provide the optimal score.

Finally I would try raising the timings of the fastest memory to match the slower kit. Not sure part numbers you have, but that would assure better compatibility again.

I'd try those configurations out.

Solution
The configuration I outlined above was straight from the Asus support documents. I'm still skeptical of mixed channel setups, I don't quite grasp how the modes mix correctly, I guess from the results it seems like there is an incredible amount of overhead.
