Hi everyone

I am thinking about building my first computer, but I am still a little uneasy taking the plunge and shelling out a large chunk of money before I run the system components by a few people first. So I was wondering if you guys could take a quick peek at the hardware I have selected and let me know if they sound like a decent build. In terms of what I expect from my computer, its really going to be mainly an entertainment unit to play games. I want it to be able to handle the newest titles, but I don't plan on overclocking or anything like that.

Here are the components I have selected (chosen based on performance for a low-med budget, based on my limited knowledge):

Case: Cooler master HAF XB EVO (looks roomy with good airflow)
MOBO: ASUS M5A99FX PRO (sidenote: the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 seems nearly the same. Is there a benefit to one versus the other?)
Power supply: Cooler Master V650 (because high efficiency, decent price, 650 watts gives me a little wiggle room, and semi-modular)
CPU: AMD FX-4350 (seems like good bang for your buck)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 (2 x 4GB)
HDD: WD Blue WD10EZEX (1TB)
Optical drive: ASUS DRW-24B1ST
Fans: Thermaltake CL-F015-PL20BL-A 200mm, Antec 761345-75081-3 80mm, Antec PRO 120MM DBB
GPU: salvaging from my previous computer, it’s a MSI GTX 560Ti

Does anything pop out to anyone as being incompatible, or not making sense? From what I can tell, these components should produce a decent gaming rig, but again, not high end gaming or anything.

Let me know your guys’ thoughts, you’re the experts!
Cheers

Thanks!

The 6300 looks like a good CPU, for sure. Would the 6-core perform any better than the quad core? I was under the impression not many games were capable of taking advantage of 6-cores yet. So in the end I decided to go with a higher 4.2Ghz quad. I suppose a 6-core CPU might future proof it better.

Just curious the reason you chose the motherboard you did, you can go alot cheaper with mostly the same feature maybe besides the esata or firewire

Oh, actually, yeah good point. I eventually decided on the higher chipset for a couple reasons. First, other forums highly recommended the 990 chipset (for this that an the other thing) compared to other less expensive boards, so there just seemed to be a more general consensus that it was better. And also, I decided having extra PCIe slots might future proof it a bit better. The other board I considered was the ASUS M5A97.

Thanks all! Sounds like I am on the right track.

As suggested above, would I do better to purchase a quad core or 6-core CPU, or will it really matter? (i.e. the FX-4350 for the FX-6300?)
