Quick question, I'm pretty certain about this, but want to make sure.

When I get home from work today I'm going to build my new PC. I'm reusing my SSD but I want to reinstall Windows and set the drive to AHCI (previous motherboard didn't give the option).

Will it simply be the case of choosing the setting in the BIOS, booting from USB and installing Windows (allowing it to do a quick format as it does)?

Thanks

With AHCI enabled in the BIOS, when you install Windows it will detect it and install the default AHCI driver Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Driver (msahci.sys). After you're done installing Windows and you've boot in, you'll want to install the chipset drivers, SATA drivers, etc.

I don't know if you have an Intel system or AMD. Intel's is IRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology), and if I remember correctly AMD's is installed with the Catalyst drivers. Either way MicroSofts generic driver will get you started.
