I'm trying to install new RAM and I'm getting black screen on every upgrade. I've tried 3 new RAM sticks so far.
Using the old stick, both slots work and it boots fine so it's not the slots. My BIOS version is the latest, v2.13, and I flashed it a second time just to make sure. I'm running windows 8 64 bit with classic shell.
I tried switching slots, reseating (yes it's properly seated), and removing battery/AC adapter and holding power button for 10-20 seconds then retrying.
My default working stick is:
ADATA 4gb DDR3 PC3-12800 freq:1600 CAS 11 (1.35V) 204pin SO-DIMM
New stick:
G.Skill 4gb DDR3 PC3-12800 freq:1600 CAS 11 (1.5V) 204pin SO-DIMM
Both of my RAM slots are 1.5v however the old stick runs at 1.35 while the new one runs at 1.5. Is this a problem?
The stick I tried previously was a second ADATA stick with the same specs, which still black screened. I have returned both of the other sticks. There are no beeps, just black screen clearly not reading the RAM. System restores once I pop the old stick in.
What's strange is that the BIOS is reading only 4GB, as well as the system information and core temp, however CPU-Z is reading both slots of memory as 8GB and each slot shows its specs.
I will add that the old stick has 4 chips in parallel, laid down vertically and the new chip has 4 chips in series, and another 4 chips in series under it laid down horizontally. Are all of these notebook chips not compatible or something?.
