Graphics card not using all of its memory

I have a quadro K5000M 4gb graphics card. System requirement labs says that only 3.1 GB of the 4 total GB is dedicated. Could this be the cause for why games I used to be able to run games that don't run as good now? (I also upgraded my OS.)

Are you sure it is not a 3 gigabyte card?

I also do not fine these things that accurate at detection.

Generally workstation cards are not made for games either.

some hardware information programs misread or get confused... it happens. The quadro really isn't made for gaming if i remember correctly. It's for computing.

Then do not worry about what some random website says.

GPU-Z tends to be very accurate however.

Also unless you are playing your games at a much higher resolution(or multi monitor) or very large texture packs, i do not think you are running out of video memory.

What games are you playing. How many screens?

Because it's at idle.... when you use a 3d program the clock speed will increase to meet the demand of the program.

I don't know how the Qudro class GPU's will behave under overclocking... I;d suggest doing some research before trying. With overclocking comes more power requirement and more heat.

The card will only use as much ram as necessary for the task at hand. If you want to use more ram increase your resolution or decrease asset compression. Like Larger in game textures and such. also you don't want to use all available ram. Just let your gpu work as it was designed to.

It's strange whenever I play skyrim maxed out on ultra in 1920 x 1080 it only uses around 700mb of VRAM even though it is lagging.

Maybe you are running into another bottleneck.

How is the gpu load and cpu loads?

What is the actual frame rates you get?

GPU load was at like 99% but memory used is under even a single gig even though it needs to allocate more VRAM.

You are saying the speed stayed at 135mhz?

Thats not right. The Nvidia control panel has some power save settings under Manage 3D settings -> Global settings -> Power management -> Prefer Maximum Performance

And the speeds are still at 135? I mean you are never going to use all your memory on that game without many mods.
