Hello. I built my PC about a year ago, and it currently has one 8 gb ram stick in it right now. Today I was taking apart this old windows vista computer that I no longer need and I found two sticks of 2 gb ram in it. I've been wanting to increase the ram in my pc for a while now. My question is, is it okay to add these two 2 gb sticks? Or should I just buy another 8 gb stick?

Solution
If they are DDR3 you can always give them a try, if unstable but they do boot to BIOS try increasing the DRAM voltage + 0.075 to increase stability and let us know what happens

Even though it might not be stable, is there a possibility that it could hurt my computer if I tried? Because I'm thinking, if it won't damage my computer somehow, then I might as well give it a try.

Is your current computer DDR3 or DDR2. Is the 2gb chips DDR2 or 3.
You won't be able to fit a DDR2 in a DDR3 Dimm slot.
The only way you would hurt the computer, is by physically forcing the ram in.

If the chips match your current PC (ddr2 or ddr3), no real harm will be done. If the chips are not compatible, the computer will beep at you a lot of times when starting it up. It won't start until you turn off and remove the chips. If they are unstable, you will get BLUE SCREENS. It is up to you if you want to try.

Crap. Turns out they're DDR2, so I can't even give it a try. Thanks for all the help guys but it looks like I'm just going to have to buy another stick.
