After having my laptop infested with Ads, I tried to tackle the problem by removing unwanted programs that were the source of this problem. However, during this process, I uninstalled 'Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus' not realizing that it wasn't actually a problem. In discovering that my audio was no longer playing, I found out it was because I uninstalled this program. I have searched the internet in solutions to this but have not found a successful one. Anytime I try to update or re-install it, it always comes up with the answer that it could not be found. I have tried to restore my computer to a time before it was uninstalled, which again wasn't successful (For some reason it could not be done). I installed Driver Toolkit which could in fact re-install this for me, but in order to do I must register with them - this is not free, and I am not capable of paying for it. Troubleshooting hasn't worked, nor has any of the other solution's the Windows website offered. I cannot find out who the manufacturer is (It just says 'unknown' when i have searched) and I have no CD to go with my laptop to reset it. Is there anything I can do?

Go to the website of your laptop's manufacturer and it'll have the downloads you need in the support section (which are free).

The easiest thing to do is go to the manufacturer's website, find the support/download page for your model, and download the driver from there. Won't cost a dime.

You could also try Slim Drivers, the free version.

How would I find out the manufacturer? Because I tried to find out and where it should have given the name of the manufacturer it just says 'unknown'

If the laptop manufacturer and model is not listed in system information in your control panel, try looking on the bottom of the case - there should be a data plate or sticker.

I managed to find this out, and downloaded another audio device for my laptop (It was a different one - only one available) 'Realtek', what am I to do next? (Audio sill has not come back)

What was the manufacturer and model? Include any number strings that were on the label/plate. Do you remember approximately when you bought it and where you bought it from?

Laptop motherboard audio adapters tend to be pretty generic. If you can give us the details above, we can probably track down the appropriate driver.

The driver at the link you sent should be the right one. You can try this - go here http://www.driverscape.com/download/high-definition-aud... and download the "High Definition Audio Device Driver Installer" and try running that. (The website and downloads are clean - AVG Threat Labs gives them a thumbs up.)

If that doesn't work, I think you're going to have to reflash the motherboard's BIOS and do a clean install of Windows and all the drivers.

Thank you to everyone who answered my problem, I've now got it fixed. In the end I decided to go back to the manufacture's website and install the provided audio driver. My initial problems with this was a) not knowing what to do after installing and b) being told by my netbook that it was recommended to cancel the download. I managed to over come this by going into the Folder created by downloading the device and launching a setup program within it and just ignoring the 'recommendation' message (As I felt it was trustworthy) and now all is fine and my sound has been restored. Once again, thank you for all your help :)
