i'm planning to switch to comcast from att. i dont want to lease their modem and i plan to get the 50 down / 10 up package for new members. what is a good modem to use? also want something not that expensive.

Solution
Been using a Motorola SBG6580 modem/router with comcast for several year now, 10+ wifi devices and 5 cabled devices. Good range in large single story home. Only problem with a modem/router is if one fails you replace both. There are better units on the market now, I would read all the reviews you can google.
A Zoom 5341J or a motorola sb6141 are two of the best.

I am currently with Time Warner and when they insisted there was not an outage I did a lot of research to find the best modem supported by TW and Comcast because of the pending merger, those two where the best .

does these modem have wireless built in too? my current att modem have ethernet and wireless built in. if not any recommendation on the router? i have these two old d-link wireless router DIR-655 and DIR-625. will i be able to use these or do i have to buy another router on top of the modem?

Those models are modem only, the zoom is cheaper then the motorola.

You dont want to buy an all in one device because is is just a crappy router mixed with a crappy modem and sold at a premium, then when the crap dies you have to replace both.

How big of a home do you have, how many devices, and do you want dual band (dual band means it can use the 2.4ghz band and the 5 ghz band to provide more bandwidth assuming you have devices that support dual band).

Also what is your total budget?
