Hey guys, a quick question here, this has really been intriguing me lately, and I have been wondering... Who in the world invented motherboards?! I mean, did they have the idea in mind of what they wanted to do with them? Why did they decide just throwing metal on a plastic board together would be a good idea? I searched for this on google but had no luck finding my answer! I'm not sure if this question belongs here, but thanks for reading! :pt1cable:

Adding on to the other people here, the motherboard basically was a circuit board, the first motherboard was used in the altair ( first computer that wasnt a full room) there were clubs in silicon valley were people like Steve Wozniak would solder on certain chips to a altair motherboard to get them to process data and so on, eventually they wanted to put more and more onto the boards so the chips continually got smaller and better. Thats kind of a basis of what i know from a documentary on computers from the 1990s so my info is a little dated

They wouldnt have been so complicated when the technology first started out. But as things get smaller and more features were desired, different bits were probably compacted and combined into the pile of circuitry we see today. As a need for a feature arose, it probably was added to the board (cpu slot, memory slot, pci slot, various controller chips, etc.)

^At least that's my logical assumption, I'm sure someone has the actual history
