yes i got this PCI IDE 1-Port Controller Card - KEC 7002 and put it in my DC7800 CMT so i could use a 168GB ide hard drive as a slave and for some reason i plugged everything in right but the hard drive is not showing up on my list of hard drives in MY Computer!

Hi

First question does this controller show up in device manager ?

Does it have its own ROM BIOS which puts a message on screen at startup

Is jumper on hard drive set as slave? or master or cable select ?

If only drive on cable it should be jumpered as master and at end of ribbon cable
(80 wire not 40wire cable)

I am assuming some version of Windows as you have not said what operating system

Next look in Disk management for drive without a assigned drive letter

(Via control panel , Administrative tools ,Computer Management in XP)

I assumed this was a used & formatted hard drive not a blank new or erased drive which needs partitioning & formatting from Disk Management before it appears in My Computer

I have no idea why a hard drive would be set to slave without an additional master drive on same cable
Having sata controller & drive is nothing to do with pata hard drive

Cd or DVD drive could be set to slave but not hard disk
Change and report back

i have a master SATA hard drive...i am putting this in for a slave drive to have more space..i have the PCI IDE 1-Port Controller Card - KEC 7002 and i hooked the ide cord from the card to the hard drive and the 4 pin power cable to the hard drive..the hard drive works and is getting power..its just not showing up in My Computer as one of the Hard drives!

Hi

Have you looked at my first post!!?
Report what is said by
Device manager and disk management? About 160gb disk

This gives vital clues about solving problem

I presume you have a old bios and you have the sata controller in ATA compatible mode which is why you see a master hard drive for your sata hard drive

Most old motherboards have ATA (pata) hard disk controllers

Why are you not using it for the 160 GB hard drive?
