BIOS takes over an hour to load after I power computer on

Just recently when I turn on my desktop (Gateway FX530XG vintage 2007) the fan comes on and the power light is on, I see a brief flash of light from the hard drive, but then nothing. The monitor says it is not receiving any input and I don't hear anything but the fan running from the box. If I just let it set, in about an hour or so it will suddenly boot up normally. Once booted it runs just fine. I thought it might be the BIOS battery going bad after 7 years, but someone told me if the clock still has the correct date it pretty much rules out the BIOS loosing power. Any ideas or suggestions for how to trouble shoot further? By the way, it runs Windows Vista Ultimate SP 2, 32 bit OS, 4 GB RAM, Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz, with two 500 GB hard drives.

You could also maybe check the board LEDs and/or speaker maybe to see if it's having trouble moving through something. Although I feel like the computer would give up before an hour and just start screaming at you
