i5 4670k vs fx 6300 when paired with an r9 270x GPU

In pretty much all games i've seen benchmarked the i5 4670k seems to get a lot more frames out of a GPU than an amd counterpart (8320/6300).

I don't want to end up going cheaper with an fx 6300 and then deciding later on to upgrade which would require a new intel mobo and intel processor which would not slow down a new gpu.

Should I spend more now to potentially save later? Or does anybody have any first hand experience with the fx-6300 and can negate my fears?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJpiZYBT7GY The guy in this video gets steady 80fps or near whereas in this one the average is 64fps (with an 8350)

Bearing in mind I can get a 4670k for only £25 more than the price of an FX-8350

Apologies if this question isn't very clear or concise.

In games, the i5 should perform quiet a bit better. Most games don't use more than 4 threads. Each AMD core is worth 1.5 intel core in theory without hyper threading. Games like total war and MMO's will be at a big benefit. So will Skyrim. Otherwise it's not too bad of a difference. Go with the i5 and overclock it when you need to.

Go for the I5

Since explaining it technologically would take forever and you likely aren't looking for anything in depth; the simple answer is each FX "cores" are just extremely weak. Clock rate and core count are very, very small facets of the CPU performance formula. Architecture is the main ingredient, of which the FX series has a very weak one.

In almost all tasks, the strong, well-designed Haswell architecture of the 4670K can far outperform the Piledriver architecture of the 8350 in almost every way.

Again, I won't get too in depth as that would take time. The simple answer is just the differing strengths in architecture.

For my part, i would select the AMD CPU. Mantle API is a breakpoint actually. Mantle made 8-cores AMD CPU equals some I7 in gaming performances on thief, BF4 and Star swarm. This new API uses more efficiently a CPU with 6 - 8 cores. Nvidia is already starting to answer the call with massive upgrades on Direct 3D. So soon, multi-thread performance will become what is important for gaming.

So there is a great chance that AMD 6 and 8 cores CPU will perform better than actual I5 CPU with future games.

here is a list of big games which are or will or maybe will support mantle :

So out of the three, 6300, 8320, and 8350 which would you recommend for gaming? I mean I could get an fx 6300 and then go for a better gpu than the 270x or I could get an 8350 and be more future proofed if I want an upgrade later on to a top tier card

Get i5. It will last a while. People still use first gen and second gen is having no trouble keeping up either. Not many people still use the old phenoms and athlons.

That's not funny JOKER. JK
Yeah plus he could always upgrade to i7 Broadwell if he wishes whereas AM3+ is pretty much dead.

The FX-8320 is pretty much the better CPU for money between those three it can be overclocked to the point of looking alike a FX-8350. This CPU generally cost 160$ is overclockable and will outperform any Intel in the same price bracket. Intel has the better CPU but AMD is very good in mid-range CPU in price/performance.

Yup plus you can get the Z97 which supports the 5TH generation which still didn't come
that means when you're on intel you are upto date but AMD i feel like they are becoming old the same motherboards with old features bad looks and stuff like that
am not an Intel fanboy am just telling what am seeing i like both to be honest i love AMD's bang for the buck

That's what worries me. If i buy an fx 6300 now and then if i decide a lot later on that I want say an r9 290x and I have to buy an intel mobo, i5 processor, and then the r9 290x itself just so it won't be slowed down by the 6300. Whereas if i get the i5 now I can just jam that new GPU in straight away.

Look just to end this if you have the money for the I5 then get it if you don't then get the 8320 and OC the hell out of it you won't lose alot when it comes to gaming just 1-10 FPS differences and the performance you won't notice any differences

Get the i5. There's a reason it costs more...it's better. I had the FX-6300 for awhile and ended up having buyer's remorse after it performed poorly in BF3's multiplayer. That released in what, 2011? It's only going to be worse now.

It's a decent budget CPU but if you have more money use it.
