Computer stops working when sides are put on case.

I recently upgraded my computer, and tested it without my case's sides on. It worked just fine, so I plugged a fan that was on my cases side on, put the case sides on, and put the computer in its normal place. I then tried to turn on the computer, but it did not work. The other things I had plugged in to the power strip i was using worked fine, so that wasn't the issue. I figured that the power supply had died, so i bought a new one, set it up, and turned the computer on with the sides off. it worked, so i put the sides on, plugged the fan in, and turned it on, it did not work. I have no idea what is causing this, and when i removed the case sides with the second power supply, it still didn't work. Both power supplies provide enough power to support the system. Does anyone have a clue why this is happening.

Also see if you have extra pieces of metal such as motherboard standoffs touching the case when you close it. Make sure you don't have extra standoffs also... You should have 1 standoff per screw hole on the board. If there is any metal behind the motherboard touching where it shouldn't be it could be grounding out and causing a problem.

I have checked this, and it is not the case. Also, after this happens, the power supply literally breaks.
