Now before you go readin' this, I know this is never going to happen. I'm throwing out a completely stupid idea that I thought of that could make intel's IGPs better.

So what if AMD and Intel teamed up and AMD helped develop a processor with Intel where AMD focused on making the IGP and Intel focused on making the CPU side of this....CPU/APU, whatever you wanna call it.
I know this 99.9% would never happen, but what if it did? How good of a CPU would it be if it had Intel on the CPU side and AMD on the IGP side?

There is no way in hell that AMD logic would go onto Intel CPUs.

However, it is vaguely possible that you might get Nvidia graphics on them. But Intel's iGPUs are actually getting remarkably good, and it probably wouldn't hugely change much.

Business wise they'd want to differentiate themselves from their competition.

They already share a supply base - silicon design and production and R&D, packaging technologies, shipping, etc. And they share markets. And employees go from one to the other.

So they would strive to keep apart rather than getting closer together - bit like democrats and republicans. That way they can advertise how good they are and how bad their opposition is.

It might have been worth considering during the Intel GMA days. But Intel's HD Graphics have been reasonably good, and improving.

I'm sure Intel can match AMD's IGP performance (just see the Iris Pro) if they wished to. However, it appears that Intel aren't convinced of the need for significantly higher IGP performance for the majority of users, and continue to focus more on single-core performance and power efficiency.

Hello,

Actually this thing is already happened and it still happens; Intel and AMD have a cross-license agreement, so they can share some technologies. For example, the integrated memory controller from "i" series is an AMD-derived technology, and AMD is using SSE-instructions.
