Hi guys,

I DIY-ed a PC last week. I played tomb raider and the PC froze once, had to hard reboot it.

Was trying out Diablo 3 and saw this checkered patch. It was flickering, I also did a recording on it.

Is this a graphic card issue?

My PC specs are :

I5-4660
Asus B85 Pro Gamer
Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2x4)
WD Black 1TB
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD
Sapphire Radeon R9 270X Toxic 2GB
Thermaltakw Tough Power 750W
Win 7

Any help is appreciated!

UPDATE :

The graphic card bios is already the latest so i did not update.

Was trying out tomb raider again and i got a BSOD

Using BlueScreenView, the 2 files that was highlighted red was :

atikmdag.sys

ntoskrnl.exe

Help please

Thanks!

The issue can be located either at GPU or CPU or motherboard. Let's go step by step to find the solution -

Did you update your board's bios?

P.S. I had this kind of issue once but after updating the bios, the problem disappeared.

Update:
-------------
If BIOS update didn't resolve, check if your GPU is placed perfectly into the slot i.e., when you insert a card into the slot, make sure to insert the whole piece of the card into the slot in a single try.

If that doesn't help you, make sure you've updated your GRAPHIC CARD DRIVERS!

If that doesn't solve the issue, monitor the temperature using CPUID HWMONITOR. CPU temp must not go beyond the threshold. And R9 270X stays good if it doesn't surpass 85 C. Download BURNINTEST software to check if any part(s) of your computer becomes damn hot.

Hi there,

I did not update the BIOs yet. I downloaded the latest AMD Catalyst and updated the driver already.

I also checked the temperature, it goes to 61 degrees the highest when i played full settings on Tomb Raider.

The problem comes randomly. When i left the game to the main menu of D3, the black patch disappears.

i have only seen it once from the 7 or 8 times i played D3, apart from the single crash while playing Tomb Raider.

Flashing the BIOS is mandatory. I recommend you to perform the update as early as possible.
And 61 C of what? Hope you meant the CPU over there.
