Router to PC cable not seen

Hi,

I have a router TP-Link WDR4300. Wireless works great, but when I try to connect wired to my laptop, router or laptop can't see the connection, is like i didn't connect anything to it. The green led indicating port 1,2,3 or 4 not turning on. Tried it on a fresh install of Windows 7, tried it on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS too. None of them are seeing any wired connection between my router and PC.

What's funny is that the ethernet cable works fine on a PPPOE connection directly into PC, no routing.

The second funny thing, is that it works from Router to OTHER PCs. I tried changing the cable, thinking that it's a problem with it, but still didn't get anything in return.

On my old router, cable-to-pc worked fine, wireless worked fine.
So what we got untill now:

  • - Router to my laptop works wireless
    - Router to my laptop DOES NOT work wired
    - Router to OTHER PCs works wireless and wired.
    - Connected same cable from another pc to my laptop and it doesn't work.
    - Ethernet cable works fine on my laptop without any routers.
    - Router to Laptop wired, worked fine on my old router.

I could tell that is from my laptop, but then why did it work on the old router?
I could tell is from my router, but why does it work on other PCs??

I talked to my ISP but they said is not their problem to deal with it since the internet works fine on direct cable.......... interesting.

I am looking to solve this for a couple of months now.. PLEASE help me :(

Solution
laptop to PC not working is a red herring, the cable needs to be a cross over cable for that.

what speed is the router, 10/100 or 10/100/1000? what speed is the port on the laptop? is it forced to 1000 or on auto? Jumbo frames on or off?

Internet connection: 500mbps

Router speed: gigabit 10/100/1000 - it has dual channel: 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz. I've got them both running, they work fine. Can't find any auto or manual value for speed.

Laptop port: gigabit 10/100/1000

Don't really know what jumbo frames are, not that experienced in networking.

Don't know about the cable but it works on other PCs... Tried the same cable and works on others. And again, my laptop worked with my old router..
