Hi folks,
Idiot here.

I'm looking for a cheap way to hook up my single HDMI laptop port to a HDMI monitor and a VGA monitor. I'd like to extend the screens to both, not duplicate them, so I'd effectively have a panel of three screens.

I'm open to buying a second HDMI monitor if it makes the solution easier.

If I've omitted details, it may help to know I'm running a Dell Inspiron 7537.

Links would be perfect. I'm based in Australia (meaning I often use eBay) if that helps.

THANKS!!!!!!!

D

You got vga as well as hdmi on your laptop? Most do. If so, use both.

Most older laptops do. Newer ones only seem to be HDMI now.

To the OP, you could look at a USB video card, that will have a HDMI port on it, or VGA or whatever you want. There isn't anyway to take your 1 HDMI out and "split" it into 2 separate display.

Something like this.

or dell sells one for VGA-DVI http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c...

or the probably dozens or more other devices like it out there.

And I'm not sure how well your laptop is going to run two monitors. What graphics cards has it got?

Thos USB devices are a video card, so it doesn't matter how many his laptop can run, it's how many adapters can his USB bus handle. Says in the link you provided, you can use up to 6 adapters.

It runs a 2Ghz core i7 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M, 16gb of RAM.

Those adaptors look excellent! Great work and thanks for the super-fast replies!

Wow, they are cheap as chips on eBay - quality notwithstanding :)
