The LED on my Seagate External Drive (3TB STCA3000101) does not light up when connected to power. The drive spins for a second, makes two sounds, and then stops spinning. The drive is not recognized in Windows either.

This problem began when Windows crashed while the drive was in use, so that may be important to know.

Here's a video of the problem. Ignore the high pitched sound, that's not from the drive.

Hopefully I can get it fully functioning again, or at least recover the data off of it. If anybody can help out, I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks!

If the drive has an external power adapter, make sure that is plugged in and try again.
If it does the same thing, and the drive is out of warranty, you can try to remove it from the enclosure and connect it either directly to a desktop motherboard with a SATA cable or get another enclosure for it.

Form the way you say it behaves though, the drive could be damaged (due to the click and stop spinning part). Although with external drives that can be caused by not enough power going to the drive.

I plugged the power supply of the drive into another power source and the same thing happened. I also moved the USB cable from the 3.0 socket to a 2.0 socket and drivers installed and I got a message that the speed of the device could be improved by using 3.0.

So with this information, can we conclude that the drive itself is busted? I'm still under warranty, so I can get it replaced, but does anybody know if important project files can be recovered if I send it to Seagate?

You will need to talk to Seagate about the data. If it's only an issue with the enclosure, they can just swap the drive to another one. But their default may be to just get you a working unit with a new drive. You'll need to talk to their support people anyway to get the warranty repair done, can ask them then.

Also, do not keep your only copies of data on an external drive, only use them for backup or moving files between computers. If you must use an external drive for storage, keep backups of that as well. If you have "important project files", you need to back them up. Hard drives fail, and way too often people think about backups only after they lose their data.
