I am building a gaming computer for my wife. She plays League of Legends and Starcraft, so my goals for this computer aren't to crazy high, just to get her smooth game play/frame rates on the highest settings. I am a pretty novice to this as I have only built a few a gaming systems in the past. I am comfortable with AMD so that's what I am looking at, my budget is pretty open ended, but I am looking at it with the attitude that I just want to get what it will take to reach my goals for this computer, if that be a 150$ or a 400$ CPU it doesn't matter, I just don't want to overkill and throw money away on overkill parts for a computer that will be playing League of Legends and facebook 90% of the time with the occasional game of Starcraft. Here are a few I am looking at

Those are the 4 I am looking at, but I am way open to suggestions. I figured I would start with my Processor then pick a Mobo and Graphics card and so on. Thanks for any suggestions tips.

For the titles in question, an i3 vs an i5 is not going to show much of a performance difference. I say go i3 4150, and put more of budget towards GPU. An R9 270 would be a good fit for GPU. A GTX 750ti, while a bit slower, would be a good option with regards to power consumption, and can be paired with a less expensive PSU.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($114.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock H81M-DGS R2.0 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($46.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $161.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

So you don't have a budget ah. Alright I'll vote for the 6350. However if your okay with intel get the i5 4570.

In the end to the naked eye all chips look and feel the same. Intel has much better single-core performance which is needed for starcraft,LOL, day-to-day apps. So why don't you just get an i5 4590 and a h97 mobo. If that crosses your budget get an i5 4570 and a h81 mobo.

Appreciate all the responses very much, very helpful in making decision. Also embarrassingly enough I work for a company called IMFT (IMflash) which is an Intel/Micron venture and it never even occured to me that I might even be able to get a discount with Intel, we'll see.

Thanks again for taking the time.

A quad-core Intel CPU would be your best bet for these types of games (and really every game in existence). The latest generation of chips from Intel (Haswell) run hot and are only a minor improvement from Ivy Bridge so if you're concerned about heat then go with IB. Haswell is only 5-10% better than Ivy Bridge in real world circumstances, even lower in games.
