Help me connect 2 pcs with following setup

My desktop is connected to a wifi router by a physical cable... for internet

My laptop is configured to same wifi router by .. well wifi .. [ no cable ]

Now I want to transfer 9 gb of data from desktop to laptop .. but I dont want to use internet .. only the wifi router to transfer the data fast as my net connection is not good at all .. just 1 mbps ..

So

Q1. Is it possible to do data transfer without internet
Q2 If yes, how?

I did try to search google and youtube, but failed.

share the folder containing the file on the network from the pc and copy it over from the laptop. you can use \\pcname\ in a windows explorer (replace pc name with the name of your pc)

default network sharing is on if your lan is set to "home" if not you may need to enable it

It worked half way

On desktop windows 7, there is aready a homegroup with password reset123

The folder which I want to transfer from desktop [to laptop] , i right clicked it .. under sharing, I added share to home group.

Now on laptop windows 8, under networking, i clicked join home network, and put in the password.

.. now I can see the shared folder under networking in windows explorer on laptop as \\pcname\transferdata .. but when I try to double click and open it on laptop or copy it .. it says some error regarding no permission to access it etc etc.

now what?

Go back to where you checked the share folder option and click on permissions. Either set it to allow everyone full control or add the user name of the account you are using(on the computer you are accessing the folder from) and then give it full control.
