My setup

i5 4570
gigabyte z97x gt motherboard
2x xfx r9 290 dd edition
16 gigs 1600 ram
840 evo 250 gig windows + programs drive
2 tb western digital storage drive
1080p monitor

I'm experiencing bottlenecks in BF4 multiplayer depending on the map. Hainan and Shanghai are the worst offenders with my fps dropping to the mid 70s in those maps. In single player games I get 140 avg. fps, including BF4 with everything on ultra + the resolution scale bumped up a bit. However the cpu spikes in BF4 multiplayer are what I keep seeing that kill my fps. I monitor temps and everything is fine. Both cards never getting to 90 C and my cpu is sitting right at about 60 C under load. My question is will a new i7 4970k be enough to balance this build out in BF4 multiplayer? I don't really want to spend $340, but I can if there isn't some setting I'm missing to correct this.

Solution
Gaming wise there is zero difference between an i5 and an i7. There may be some difference, but it would be so tiny you probably wouldnt even notice it.

Even with crossfire? I understand multiplayer is a different beast than single player, but I'm just looking for a solution that would get rid of the cpu bottleneck.

I wish I could not be a freak about this lol. I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

Lol maybe I should rephrase the question. How much performance should I expect to pick up if I upgrade my CPU? I'm not really complaining about what I have now, I'm just curious to see if I upgrade my rig to an i7 what kind of minium fps I can expect.

So I saved up the money and got the 4790k, installed it, had to reformat and reinstall windows to get everything working properly, but now I can report back that I'm actually seeing an improvement of about 20 fps to minimum frame rates and instead of my processor being at 100 % utilization in BF4 as it was with the 4570, the 4790k at stock is at about 50%. Just food for thought.

Well the 4570 was installed with a fresh format when I first built the PC, so I'm not so sure about that. Its definitely a possibility though. Plus battlefield is so buggy it might just be the fresh install of the game fixed something too. Probably wasn't the most sane upgrade, but I'm definitely enjoying it. It does run a bit warmer than the i5 though. May need to adjust my cooling a bit.
