Hello everyone, I am going to buy a 144hz mointor. I have 3 displays already on my AMD R9 280X, Will I need to know anything before buying the 144hz? I have an DP to DVI Active by Sapphire. I am planning to have 3 displays with 144hz and 2 60HZ. Am I going to need anything before buying this? Any special cables?
Thanks guys means a lot. Also the monitors I currently have are the
DELL ULTRASHARP LED 23 x3 (I will be using 2)
and I am getting the ASUS VG248QE 24-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor.

i dont think u will be able to make the VG248QE work at 144hz, cause there is no specific monitor option. I think when u setup the eyeinfinity, u setup it up as 1 screen not 3> 1 individually. So my best guess is that all of them will work at 60hz. Hope that makes sense.

Exactly. If we were talking about a 290x or a 780ti, then a 144hz monitor would make sense, but with a single 280x, it really won;t make any difference as there are plenty of games that card can't even max at 60fps.

Oh well, I would like this monitor because I like to play FPS and League. My friend has GTX 770 and doesn't run into issues with his ability to run games. I play CoD4,Leauge,CS GO and sometimes random games with friends. I'm not the guy that plays the new games.

Yes, thank you. But anyway. Do I need anything special?

This thread is pretty much solved :D but I have one more question. When I bought my third monitor I was having issues with setting it up. When I bought an Active Display Port it worked all fine. I will have 1 spare monitor when I get the 144HZ one, could I plug it in and have 4 monitors? I have 1 more port on my graphics card which is an HDMI. I have an HDMI to DVI around somewhere in my house so I could use that. I once tried to connect my TV with HDMI to HDMI to the graphics card but it only allowed me 3 normal monitor displays or 2 Displays, one normal monitor and the TV. Thanks.

Yes, it is designed to be misleading, as is everything with advertising. You can actually use 6 monitors, with a $120 device called a DP MST Hub. This will allow you to use one card with 6 monitors, but you will have to install all the drivers that come with it and there are other issues, like added latency of the displays connected to it and they have to ALL be the same monitor I believe. Those devices are NOT meant for gaming and simply adding monitors to an office PC for example.

If you want to game on 6 monitors, you need 2 cards, and frankly, 2 280x's is only powerful enough for 3 monitors when running modern games, not 6.

Hmm that's a pity. So I will just have 1 unused spare monitor? It's a great monitor. What could I use it for?

Sell it? Not much else. You could spend $120 on that device and use the monitor. I assume you are only going to be gaming on the single 144hz monitor.

SOME 280x's will let you use 4 monitors at the same time, IF you have 4 ports. You can try that, then decide from there.
