Hi, as the title suggests, I'm building a gaming PC for the first time and I could use some assurance if all the components are compatible.

CPU: i5 4690k 3.5GHz(turbo boost 3.9GHz) Quad Core Processor
2)GPU: AMD Radeon R9 280X (3GB, GDDR5)
3)Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-BB5-HD3
4)Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz Ram
5)Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3.5" 1TB
6)CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120V (2400 Fan RPM, 19- 40 dbA)
7)Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze ATX
8)Optical Drive: Lite-On iHDS118-04 DVD/CD Drive
9)Case : Thermaltake Versa H22 ATX Mid Tower Case

Any recommendation or advise would be helpful. Thanks

More about : building time parts compatible

Hey buddy! I'm building a PC for the first time too! My thread will help you out since our parts are almost identical.

Thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2239287/building...

So. For compatibility, if you use the PC PartsPicker you can build your WHOLE system with the cheapest prices and it will show if it is compatible or not. It is truly AMAZING.
For example, here is my build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/vdfQcf It even tells you the total price with tax! I HIGHLY suggest using it.

Next. Rule of thumb.650W for Single GPU 850W for Double GPU So start at a 650W

If you don't want to go overboard get the 650W I chose. There is a 750W that is the same price, but obviously it is sort of overkill. Your choice.

650W - http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650xxxb...

750W - http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g2075...

If you'd like neither, check this tiered PSU list http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g2075...

Hope I helped :D

Everything is 'compatible', in the sense that it will all work together. However, it's not very well balanced. What is your budget you're looking to hit? Can put you something together that will work very well :)  And do you intend on overclocking?

A b85 mobo with an i5 4690k is not advisable. Firstly you'll have to upgrade bios. Second it is a k model and you have sufficient cooling too. But you cannot overclock on b85 chipset. What's the point in buying a k model cpu if you do not overclock. Get yourself a good z97 mobo like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Otherwise if you do not plan on overclocking dump the 4690k and get yourself a 4690 and pair it with a h97 mobo.
Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
And the rest of it is compatible. Also get yourself an evga supernova nex 650w gold psu. It's going for 59.99 bucks after rebate which is really cheap and also has a leaves a lot of room for future upgrades: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
