I have an old Dell Dimension 9200, which has 4GB of memory (4 X 1gb) and a new custom built PC with 8GB (2 X 4gb). Would it be worth it (or possible) to use the old memory in the new PC, as the mobo has 2 spaces still free for memory, or should I just get rid of the old memory altogether? The old PC itself is useless to me in every way, besides parts, so either way is fine for me.

Just a bit of techy FYI, the new memory and old memory are both DDR3, and the new memory is corsair value select (don't judge, I'm a cheap - o). The old memory sadly has no markings or barcodes, all I can tell is that it is corsair as well.

I can provide any further information if necessary.

Thanks,

Solution
If you work on rigs for friends or whatever might hang onto them and use for a upgrade or replacement, or could probably sell them, I keep DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 around, even a few even older SIMMs

Right, I will try that, can't now, my AV is updating, and I have backups etc going, so after all that is done, I will open her up and perform a memory transplant, see how it goes. Thanks, just wanted to make sure I was not going to break anything beforehand.

Wow, I feel so stupid. Turns out the old memory was DIMM. Near damn broke my mobo before I realised :p. The 2 types look almost identical, though, so I have a legit excuse. Well, I guess I could just get rid of it, any advice on that front?

Right, I'll keep them and see if I can use them at some other point. Thanks for your time.
