Hi Guys,

My toshiba satellite L850 D has recently just died for no reasonable explanation at all causing a lot of frustration.

I've been following countless forums on here to try and salvage all my music and photos that were on my password protected HDD but to no avail. The operating system on the deceased laptop was Windows 8 and whilst using a HDD caddy to attempt to access my files on another laptop with windows 7, the security tab under properties to try and gain ownership just will not appear. I've entered safe mode as an administrator, tried to adjust the 'simple sharing' check box which this alternate laptop does not have and downloaded multiple ownership plug ins to try and salvage my files. I've tried everything and will literally go insane if I lose everything on there.

Many many thanks in advance

....Password protected HDD....
How was this done? BitLocker, BIOS?

If BitLocker did you back up the recovery key? If not then kiss the data goodbye.
If BIOS you will have to connect the drive to the motherboard interface.

You've just learned a valuable lesson, the hard way, as to why you must always have (regularly tested) backups of important data.
