Hello,

So, I've been using a my PC for some time now, and it has been excellent value for money (still really have no problems running new games at excellent visual qualities @1080p). I've been using an i7 940 with an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard. These parts have been great, but as I have been using them constantly for quite some time now, I've been looking at investing in an overhaul of my system. some parts are really showing their age (I am already replacing my PSU and case).

The problem I have, is sorting through what motherboard I might pick -- the selection is quite intimidating! Looking more specifically towards ASUS and Gigabyte brands, as they are manufacturers I have a high level of confidence in.

I don't have enthusiast level requirements, but I do like to get an excellent balance of power vs price. SLI isn't something I have favored, but I don't discount it as an option. Ease of moderate overclocking perhaps. I do certainly look for longevity and versatility in my PC hardware.

Really, I would appreciate some recommendations!

Thanks in advance!

then your best bet would be the Asus Z-97A, it has great price, features and you can keeo the SLI door open for the future, plus it is broadwell compatible too.

Thank you for the great reply!

Do you have any input on ease of overclocking for this mb? And would you offer any potential alternatives?

For example, a comparable Gigabyte motherboard I have been eyeing would be the GA Z79x

I myself haven't done overclock in it, but when I was researching to buy it, I saw that a lot of people have done overclock on it on Newegg reviews, plus it has a special feature called 5 Way optimization that works great, I didn't suggest a Gigabyte Mobo because the last one I had failed on me.

As another alternative if you want to spend a little more I've read that the Asus VII Maximus Ranger and Hero are excellent options too.
