144hz Monitor, DVI-I works, DVI-D doesnt??

New ASUS VG248QE monitor. Hooked it up to DVI-I, found out i couldnt display at 144hz unless i was on DVI-D port. Switched it over but my monitor wont display anything, says no signal? Bad Gpu or what? im using the DVI cable that came with it??
