Hello All!
I have a (simple?) question today: How do I connect two computers so that I'll be able to share files between them? I am pretty much a novice at all things networking/that sort of stuff, but when I looked online for how to connect two computers I thought that Ethernet sounded like the fastest and easiest way. However, there seem to be dozens of ways to accomplish this and I was wondering if you all could provide me with the easiest way for a novice.

The Facts:
- I want to connect a Windows 7 desktop to a Windows 8.1 laptop.
- I have a Cat5 (not 5e) crossover cable (I'm pretty sure I checked Wikipedia).
- When in doubt please explain like I have no idea what you are talking about, because I probably don't.
- I'm pretty much going to be copying/sharing game files and the like because I just got a new laptop.

Thank you in advance

Step 1. Connect the two cables using the crossover cable. Step 2. Go to control panel and open network and sharing settings. Step 3. Double click on the unidentified network icon within network and sharing settings. Step 4. Enable network discovery under the info tab "Network discovery and file sharing are turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Click to change..." Step 5. Profit. All of this was just directly copied from this site: http://www.wikihow.com/Connect-Two-Computers
