wired desktop wireless laptop issues

My sister's stay-at-home job provided her with a computer that must have a wired connection. They supplied a modem. She pays for the Internet. She now wants to be able to access wifi so she can use laptops/phones. I figured she needed a router so I bought her the belkin g54/n150. I tried to set it up but I discovered that she does not have administrator privileges to go in and change network settings. After playing around changing up cords, I got it so her desktop computer connected fine, the wifi network was found and paired on the laptops and phones, but still had no internet. No idea how to fix. Any help?

Need a better description of your current setup, including the ip/subnet mask you get when connecting directly in to the modem.

but id imagine what you have is a modem which has dhcp etc on it, and then a router hanging off the modem which has wifi?
Ideally you would want to replace the modem with the router all together but if you cant and the modems current (DHCP),config allows it, the simplest solution is to use a wireless switch, you can use the router as a wireless switch by turning off dhcp then connecting the modem to the LAN (As opposed to WAN/Internet) ports on the router. You may find when you do this you loose the ability to connect to the routers web management page after doing this unless you change the ip address to one which sits in the same range as the modem is using. but don't worry, you can always press the factory reset button on the router if needed.

When you say she does not have admin privledges do you mean on the computer or the modem?

What is the model of the modem, if it is just a modem then there is no dhcp, no advanced settings so it is just a matter of hooking up devces in the right order.

If it is a modem/router then we should be able to figure out what settings is required to make it work, it is possible that they have the modem/router locked down with mac filters or dhcp for one device or other methods to make sure only one device is used, but since she is paying for the internet service this seems highly unlikely. Depending on what measures they took I can still help you (some measures it would violate forum rules for me to help you bypass).
